Today the Church remembers Saint Gerard Majella, a Redemptorist lay brother who lived in the 18th century between Basilicata and Campania. Despite his extremely fragile health and an earthly life that lasted just twenty-nine years, Gerard left an indelible mark on the history of Christian spirituality. An exceptional model of absolute obedience, profound humility, and a spirit of penance, he was enriched by God with extraordinary charisms: from miracles of healing to prophecies, and even the extraordinary ability to read hearts. His existence was a total gift to the poor, the suffering, and anyone seeking spiritual comfort. Today he is universally invoked as the patron saint of pregnant mothers, children, and newborns, a bond of love that continues to live in the hearts of millions of devotees around the world.
