Today the Church celebrates the imposing figure of Saint Moses, prophet and lawgiver of the Old Testament, recognized as the greatest prophet of the people of Israel. Chosen by God through the sign of the burning bush, Moses was the divine instrument selected to free the Jews from the slavery of Egypt. Guided by faith, he confronted the Pharaoh and was the protagonist of the great wonders of the ten plagues and the extraordinary crossing of the Red Sea. On Mount Sinai, Moses received from YHWH the Tablets of the Law, the Ten Commandments that still represent the ethical and spiritual foundation not only of the Judeo-Christian tradition but of Western civilization. For forty years, he led his people with patience and dedication through the hardships of the desert, sustained by manna and the divine promise, until he contemplated the threshold of the Promised Land before delivering his soul to God. The figure of Moses remains the eternal symbol of liberation from sin and the spiritual guidance that leads humanity toward the covenant with the Creator.
