Saint Alexander of Bergamo: the courage of faith within the ranks of the Theban Legion

The Church commemorates Saint Alexander of Bergamo, a Roman soldier of the Theban Legion who survived the decimation in Switzerland for refusing to persecute Christians. Having fled to Italy and been captured in Bergamo after an initial escape in Milan, he was beheaded for preaching the Gospel. Today he is the patron saint of the Orobic city.
